About the Jeweller

Hi there, I’m Jodie, the one-woman-band behind Raw Moon Creations. I’m a Welsh girl currently living in the beautiful Forest of Dean with my partner Deon and our crazy pup Ezekiel (Zeki).

I first discovered metalsmithing in early 2018 when, on a whim, I decided to take a 10-week introduction to silversmithing class at the Bristol Folk House and fell completely and hopelessly in love with the craft.

I went on to complete a Diploma in Silver Jewellery with the London Jewellery School in 2020-2021 and have been running this little business online from my home studio in Bream since mid 2022.

About the Jewellery

The Jewellery I design and create for Raw Moon Creations is eco-friendly, sustainable, and heavily inspired by the vibrant landscapes and ancient folklores of the West Country, Wye Valley, and Forest of Dean.

I make each individual item slowly and with purpose, using my own two hands, and favour the use of traditional silversmithing techniques over more modern methods to ensure my jewellery has that bold, rustic, and handmade feel.

Dark patinas and heavy textures are also used frequently across my work to help give each collection an authentic, aged vibe.

The Inspiration

As I’ve gotten older the natural world has become increasingly more important to me, and I now spend much of my free time exploring the many tracks and trails of Gloucestershire, Monmouthshire, and Somerset.
These amazing landscapes and all of their incredible flora and fauna serve as one of the biggest inspirations in my art.

You will find evidence of my love for the great outdoors, as well as my fascination with the moon and the night sky, deeply imbedded within my designs.

I also absolutely love to read. Though it would be hard for me to name just one favourite book, I am a huge fan of the 18th century gothic. I also have a soft spot for Celtic folklores and fairy tales, and love a good, old fashioned, ghost story, especially those from the Victorian era.

As my silversmithing skills develop, some surprising elements from these stories are finding their way into my work. I’m excited to explore a few of these themes further, so you can expect to see a healthy dose of both the macabre and the gothic showing up in many of my designs.

The Gemstones

I hand source all gemstones myself and only choose to shop with ethically sound and reputable suppliers.

I favour the use of stones that mirror the natural world and tend to select ones that reflect the landscape, the seasons, or the night sky.
Moonstone, jasper, agate, turquoise, amber, tigers’ eye and malachite have all featured heavily in my work so far. I also have a strong affinity for stones found within the British Isles.

My Impact on The Planet

Reducing my impact on this beautiful planet is something I’m incredibly passionate about so I only use recycled sterling silver (and occasionally gold) in all of my creations. I also try to keep all packaging used within my business as eco-friendly and plastic free as possible.

The environment is incredibly important to me so this is an area I am constantly trying to improve upon, Once I know better, I will do better, so if you ever have any suggestions on how I can further improve in this area, please do get in touch to let me know.
